Nature's wonders at your feetThe design philosophy of InterfaceFLOR's new carpet line, Material World, captures nature in all its imperfect wonder. Nature is rarely perfect. Yet the natural imperfections that lie in the uneven grain of wood and in the dents of a stone's surface have a beauty so amazing, it's the ideal inspiration for designers and artists. From this very concept spurred the creation of InterfaceFLOR's latest collection – Material World. The name of the line is actually an ironic play on words, juxtaposing two contrasting ideas: to move away from a manmade world, towards a more natural state. Hence, the designs in this line are based on the patterns one finds in natural materials like stone, wood and rain. It's not a new concept; the Japanese call this interpretation of nature wabi-sabi, the art of retaining imperfections as an acceptance of each object's natural integrity and beauty. Aside from natural imperfections, abstract concepts also come into play in the new line. The imagery of falling rain and its play on light and colour are concepts also incorporated into Material World. As a result, the line's designs all have a unique look, almost as if nature crafted them herself. This was the result of using a new variation of InterfaceFLOR's tufted product design. Carpets under the new line use the 5/64 gauge cut and loop technology. This varies the pile heights of the carpets, creating and blending colours and patterns at different levels to produce more sophisticated designs. Owing to the different yarn lengths, the designs have an interesting three-dimensional effect. Contrary to falling within a middle to high price range, this collection actually gives more value in product quality and design than its actual price.
